NEUSTADT construktion of urban life 18.-21. February 2003
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thirteen years after the fall of the iron curtain Europe faces rigorous changes at political, social and cultural level.
The change in the political area as had an effect on building. Abandoning architecture of lacklustre buildings made from prefabricated slabs we are turning to designed, functionally refined buildings. Architecture is integrated, lives with and for people and has its effect on quality of living and ultimately on the attitude towards life in cities.

A discussion about architecture, urban planning, socio-political and socio-cultural movements as well as changes in the Czech Republic in the course of the transformation process:
What rules govern urban development in a post-communist city? What is the relationship between city centres and suburbs? How does the increasing globalisation affect urban life and city design?

Based on the assumption that each construction of our everyday world is created through the interaction between the acts of the actors and the economic, cultural and physical-material framework (structures), the attention is focused on the WHY of the constitution and space. WHY do the actors create spaces in their everyday lives and what patterns of interpretation are thereby used.
What are the connections to the field of the arts, or how does contextually operating art construct publicity?

Ultimately: What city results from all this?
