The premises of Stadtwerkstatt in Kirchengasse 4 in Linz/Urfahr
are a communication hub and a communication platform for the
regional and local art and culture scene with national and
international orientation. Home of initiatives for the democratisation
of new media on the one hand:

Various Public Access Structures were established together
with other media activists: Radio FRO, the independent city
radio station for Linz which has been airing from Kirchengasse
4 since 6 September 1998, and the internet node servus.at
which connects of the Upper Austrian art and culture scene
with the internet.
Here the experimental connection of new and old media, real
and virtual spaces under participation of active citizens
is practiced. Real stages (venue, Café Strom), "stages"
on air and stages in virtual space are connected with each
other, and form a complex medial centre. On the other hand
the premises are the operation basis for the execution of
own art projects. With artistic intervention in public space
the Stadtwerkstatt-contents are exemplarily realised.
